A Sad Death
We
are pained to chronicle the death of Mr. C.H. Lincoln, of Stevens
Point, on Wednesday morning last. It will be remembered by most of our citizens
that on the 18th day of September, Mr. Lincoln was united in
marriage to Miss Libbie Hummiston, of this city, and that they at once went to Stevens
Point, which place was to be their future home. In about a week after their marriage Mr.
Lincoln was taken sick, since which time he has been confined to his bed most
of the time. He has been a great
sufferer but has always born up courageously under his afflictions, sometimes
getting better and again worse until last Saturday, when a change for the worse
took place. Dr. Manchester and Mrs.
Humiston, of this city, were sent for and went as soon as possible to the
assistance of the young wife, who had been wearied by the constant care of her
beloved husband. Dr. Manchester returned
Saturday evening and it was his opinion then that Mr. Lincoln would survive but
a short time. On Wednesday morning the
hand of Death was laid upon him, and in its cold, icy grasp, tore him from his
loving wife and friends. It is a very
sad occurrence and the young widow has the heartfelt sympathy of the entire
community, both here where she has so long been known, and in her new home
where those who became acquainted with her had learned to love her. Her short married life was a continuance of
affliction, but notwithstanding all this she was always hopeful and bore up under
her burden like a true and devoted woman.
The remains were brought to this city yesterday for interment and the
funeral services held in the Baptist church.
