Waupaca County Post

May 20, 1926

Mary Ann Beesley was born at Neith, Wales, Jan. 13, 1849, and died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Gertrude Evans, at Wild Rose, May 5, 1926.  She came to America when a child of but eighteen months of age, with her parents.  The family lived in New York City for three years, where the mother died. The father and children then came to Wisconsin and settled on a farm located on the banks of Beesley Lake and Creek at Chain o’ Lakes, Waupaca County.  A sister of deceased, Mrs. Elizabeth Swan, and a brother, James Beesley, preceded her in death.

Mary Ann was married Feb. 22, 1866, to Wesley J. Miner of Dayton, Waupaca County.  Nine children were born to this union. The eldest daughter, Mrs. Charlotte Timmerick, died in 1904.  The surviving children are:  Mrs. Gertrude Evans and Mrs. Harvey Davis, Wild Rose; Mrs. E.J. Stoebe, White Rock, S.D.; Mrs. Harvey Beardsley and Mrs. Ralph Larsen, Waupaca; Cornelius Miner, Kenosha; Ralph Miner, Almond, and Miss Violet Miner of Tennessee City, Tenn.  She is also survived by twenty-seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and one sister-in-law, Mrs. Maria Beesley of Stevens Point.

Mr. and Mrs. Miner lived at Scandinavia for a time where Mr. Miner conducted a store, after which they engaged in farming.  They later conducted a restaurant at Waupaca.  He traded his farm property located near the Chain o’ Lakes for a fruit farm near Tennessee City, Tenn.  Mrs. Miner became blind while in Tennessee and this fact hastened their return to Waupaca County.  They were received at the Wisconsin Veterans’ Home about eighteen years ago.  Mr. Miner passed away six years ago.  Mrs. Miner went to live with her daughter at Wild Rose, Dec. 8, 1923.

Deceased had been confined to her bed for nearly eighteen months.  She was a very  patient sufferer and was always grateful for any kindnesses or attention shown her.

Rev. Ferris of Wild Rose officiated at the funeral services which were held at the Veterans’ Home chapel Friday, May 7, with interment in the Home cemetery beside her late husband.

Those from away who attended the services were:  Mr. and Mrs. Cornelius Miner of Kenosha, Harold Galvin of Milwaukee, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Duncan of Red Granite, Mrs. Maria Beesley, Mrs. Elizabeth Humphrey and Mrs. Chas. Swan of Stevens Point.  Two daughters, Mrs. E.J. Stoebe of White Rock, S.D., and Miss Violet Miner of Tennessee were unable to attend.

The pall bearers were:  Harvey Davis, Harvey Beardsley, Ralph Larsen and Frank Steinberg.  The flower girls were:  Alma and Esther Evans, Zilphia and Mary Davis and Esther Beardsley.
