Moses Lorenzo01
Waupaca Post
June 25, 1925
Lorenzo
D. Moses was born at Hopkinton, St. Lawrence County, New York, March 8, 1842; came to Sheboygan
County, Wis., about 1856 and to
Ogdensburg about a year later where he opened up a mercantile business, later
also operating stores at Manawa, Marion, and Antigo, when the latter place was
a wilderness. He engaged in the banking
business at Ripon, Wis.,
organizing the American National Bank there in 1890, followed by Waupaca County
National Bank at Waupaca, First National of Antigo, New London and Stoughton,
the National Bank of Manitowoc, and State Banks at Manitowoc, Princeton,
Markesan and Montello. In 1901 he
returned to Ogdensburg and had since passed the summers there and the winters
in either California or Florida.
April 14, 1864, he married Fannie M. Jaquish at Madison, Wis.
(now deceased). Four children were born
to them of whom three survive: Fred L.
Moses of Los Angeles, Calif.,
Mrs. H.B. Hargraves of Luck, Wyo, and Guy J. Moses of Antigo, Wis.
December 17, 1901, he was again
married to Leona C. Potter at Washington, D.C. Two children were born to them, neither of
whom are living.
Mr.
Moses had been in poor health the past year from heart trouble, but was only
confined to his bed three days previous to his death, passing away June 8. His wife, two sons and a daughter are the
near, surviving relatives but many other relatives and friends will miss him.
He
will be remembered by those nearest, as a loving and kind husband and father,
and by his business associates as an upright, honest man. As was his wish there were no funeral
services, and his body was laid to rest in the family mausoleum at Ogdensburg.
