He was elected register of deeds of Waupaca county in 1871 and held that office two terms; in 1880 was appointed correspondence clerk in the state land department at Madison which responsible position he filled for eight years; was also city clerk for two terms and alderman two years. Mr. Olson was engaged in the abstract business many years and was thoroughly posted in all the complicated details of the abstract business.

AN ACCIDENTAL DEATH
Ole R. Olson, without a moment’s warning, forfeited his life by a fall on the sidewalk Monday evening. Mrs. Olson had gone to Mrs. Crampton’s, a neighbor, to spend the evening, and Mr. Olson went there to accompany her home about 10 o’clock, and when leaving for home, just as t hey came upon the cement walk, Mr. Olson fell backward, striking on his head on the step breaking his neck, and expired instantly.

Mr. Olson has always been prominent in politics and the news of his death was a shock to the whole city and community, and he will be greatly missed. He was a member of the D.D.H. Society and of Norden Lodge, I.O.O.F.

This community was shocked to learn of the fatal accident that cast a pall over a home in this city Monday evening.
As Mr. and Mrs. Olson were leaving the house of a neighbor where they had spent the evening. Mr. Olson slipped, striking his head on the porch step breaking his neck and causing instant death.

His death is a great blow to his faithful and esteemed wife and she has the sympathy of the community in her bereavement. Mr. and Mrs. Olson lost their only child, Ole, some ten years ago just as he was reaching his majority.
