On
Thursday morning, Mrs. Peterson, wife of Nels Peterson, who lives on the east
Ogdensburg road, asked her fourteen-year-old girl to sharpen a butcher knife to
cut some bread. She then sent her five children out in the field where
their father was at work with the team, and locking the front door, went into
the kitchen and taking the knife cut her throat. The father, thinking her
ill, sent the eldest girl to the house to stay with her mother. On
entering the door in haste she fell over the dead body of her mother. Her
cries brought her father who informed the neighbors. Mrs. Peterson was 39
years old, and for some time has been suffering from consumption. She leaves a
husband and five children to mourn her loss.
