News came Thursday that Mr. George Pitcher another of Waupaca’s old pioneers died after a short illness at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. F.B. Sherwin, at Amherst. His sister, Mrs. Eliza Barnum hearing that her brother was sick was up last week to see him, but had to come home, and his sister-in-law, Mrs. K.T. Chandler went up Thursday morning. He died at three o’clock p.m.
Mr. Pitcher was a native of the state of New York and came to Wisconsin in 1850, and soon after settled on a farm near Parfreyville which is now owned by J. Huntoon. He married Miss Hellen Snow in the t0’s, a sister of Mrs. K.T. Chandler. They moved to Waupaca some time between ’70 and ’80 and lived on Fulton Street. Mrs. Pitcher was called home in 1891, and soon after the daughter, Ella, Married Rev. F.B. Sherwin, and he has made his home with them since. He was a very exemplary man, a kind and considerate Christian and affectionate in the family and a most worthy citizen and neighbor. He leaves to mourn the loss of a kind father one son, Hiland Pitcher, of Milwaukee, and one daughter as above noted. His age was about 76.
The funeral will take place from the home of his sister, Mrs. Eliza Barnum on Fulton Street, Saturday, at 10:30 o’clock, Rev. G.W. White officiating.

Geo. Pitcher’s farm is located one mile north-east of this place. This farm is particularly adapted to dairying. It is said that George is getting rich. The product of his dairy commanding 3 and 4 cents more per pound than market prices.
