Death of Mrs. G.W. Pitcher

The REPUBLICAN made a pleasant announcement of the marriage of Miss Ella Pitcher to Rev. F.B. Sherwin, last Thursday night.  The REPULBICAN had hardly reached its subscribers Friday, when the report flashed from ear to ear that Mrs. Geo. W. Pitcher, mother of the bride was dead.

The facts in the case as near as we can learn them was that Mrs. Pitcher had been a victim of heart trouble for twelve years and her physician has feared for a year or so, that her demise was only a question of the near future.  She had been feeling much better of late, and the wedding day of her daughter was set.  On that very day she was taken worse but she did not desire that the marriage be postponed, and at her own request Rev. Perry united the hearts of the betrothed in the bonds of matrimony at the bedside of the mother, as her spirit was preparing to take its flight heavenward. Rev. Perry says he never officiated at a wedding where the circumstances were so sad and trying.  The bride and groom kissed the mother and repaired to the parlor where brief congratulations were said and the guests retired to their homes.  The mother continued to grow worse having suffered paralysis of the left side and failure of he heart’s action. About eleven o’clock Friday, she died.  Mrs. Pitcher was a noble type of woman, loved by all who knew her and endeared to her husband and two children, Hiland and Ella, all of whom were with her at her bedside.  Deceased was a sister of Mrs. K.T. Chandler of this city, and it will be remembered her other, Mrs. Snow died last winter.  The funeral was held Sunday at 2 o’clock at the house, Rev. Perry conducting the services which were very impressive.  A large number of friends and neighbors were present, and a long procession of carriages followed the remains to their last resting place in Lake View Cemetery.
