Died, at
the residence of his daughter, Mrs. S.F. Taylor, near this city, January 6, 1906, aged 86 years, four
months and twenty-six days. No serious
illness had been the old gentleman’s portion for years; but since the cycle of
his tie passed the four score and
six mark he commenced to waver, and then after a few
days confined to his bed he fell asleep, only to awake on the resurrection
morn.
Deceased
was born in New York in 1820; later lived in Philadelphia, and came to
Wisconsin in the later 40’s and settled in Waushara county where he married his
wife being a Miss Mary F. Marr. He was a
blacksmith for a number of years at Mt.
Morris and Wautoma, and when the
war came in the 60’s he enlisted in Co. D, 37th Wis. Vol. Inf.,
remained until mustered out at the close of the war, then
returned home. He worked at his trade
some and at farming. His companion died
about five year ago, since which time his home has principally been with his
daughter and family. By his death eight
sons and one daughter survive to mourn for a most kind and considerate
father. They are: George, Cedar Falls, Iowa; frank and Stacy,
Dickinson, Ia.; Will, Ogema, Wis.; Bert and Guy, McHenry, N. Dak; Ed and Fred,
Neshkoro, Wis.; Ida – Mrs. Sam Taylor, Waupaca.
All were present at the funeral except George, Guy, Stacy and Frank who
for various reasons were unable to come.
Rev. Clark of Neenah,
officiated at the funeral which was at the Taylor
residence, and the remains were laid at rest in Lake
View Cemetery.
