Waupaca County Post

January 1, 1920

George P. Radley was born in Buffalo, N.Y., September 22, 1831.  At an early age, he came with his parents to Wisconsin, making the trip by way of the Erie Canal and wagon drawn by an ox team.  They settled in Spring Prairie, Walworth County.  During their residence there he worked in the factories with his father and brothers; in 1850 they moved to Waupaca County, town of Lind, where he took up farming.  October 24, 1859, he was married to Sophronia Anna Harvey, of Lind.  Four years later they moved to the town of Dayton and purchased a home, where he still resided. About six weeks ago he went for a visit to his son-in-law, Frank Bradway’s, where his death occurred Dec. 21, 1919.  Four children are left to mourn:  Harvey, on the old homestead; Nathaniel, of Bronson, Mich.; Rocetta (Mrs. Wm. Barrington, Jr.) of Crystal Lake; and Ralph, of Dayton. The mother died March 25, 1916, and two children in infancy.  Eliza and Elijah, and Amberdaisy (Mrs. Frank Bradway) May 13, 1919.  Eleven grandchildren and two great grandchildren are also left to remember “Dear Old Grandpa”, besides other relatives. “Uncle George’, as he was popularly known, had a wide acquaintance and his door was ever open to those who wished to enter.  This warm hospitality may have come, from the spirit of old pioneer days, but perhaps more from a friendly feeling of charity to all.  For the last few years he had been rather feeble, yet able to be about and had taken interest in his friends and neighbors and those about him..  The funeral was held from the Crystal Lake church Dec. 23, with interment in the Crystal Lake cemetery, Rev. Anthony Jacobs officiating.
