Mrs. Lydia Lenora Sweetalla, Lanark, Died Friday, Jan 21

At her farm home in the town of Lanark, on Friday, Jan. 21, 1927, occurred the death of Mrs. Lydia Lenora Sweetalla, wife of Nick Sweetalla, at the age of 60 years, 8 months and 13 days, she having been born on the 8th day of May, 1866, at Ogdensburg, Wis.

In the days of her girlhood Lydia Lenora Harris emigrated with her parents to Minnesota where in 1884 she married Richard Spear, to which union were born four children. In 1890 Mr. Spear passed over the Great Divide.  After the death of her husband she returned with her four children to Wisconsin, where she met and in 1896 married Nick Sweetalla.  Seven children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Sweetalla.  Of the eleven children to whom this woman had given birth, nine survive her, who will greatly miss the loving ministrations of an indulgent mother and friend.

The surviving children are:  William Spear, Dayton; Mrs. Wallace Holman, Lanarak; Mrs. Fred Dunbar, Weyauwega; Mrs. William Sanders, Dayton; Mrs. W.M. Woehlert, Wausau; Frank Sweetalla, Sheridan; Ed Sweetalla, at home; Mrs. Perry Robbins, Lanark, and Claude Sweetalla, Wisconsin Veterans’ Home. She is also survived by one sister, Mrs. George Campbell, and 27 grandchildren.  The sympathy of the entire community is extended to Mr. Sweetalla, the husband, who in his age and loneliness will miss most of all the faithful and loving wife.

Funeral services were conducted at the home of Mr. Sweetalla Monday, Jan. 24, by Rev. E.B. Earle, Chaplain at the Veterans’ Home.  Three selections were sung by Mr. Earle and Miss Rizpah E. Crowell, with Mrs. Ella O. fuller at the piano.  There was a profusion of beautiful flowers and a large gathering of people present at the obsequies, all showing the esteem in which Mrs. Sweetalla was held by her many friends and neighbors.  The remains were laid to rest in Badger cemetery.
