DeWitt C. Ware

Another of the pioneer residents of Waupaca passed away Friday evening, D.C. Ware, a well known personage in Waupaca and vicinity, aged 65 years.

Deceased was born in the state of New York and came to Waupaca with his father, Judge S. Ware, and family.  In 1858 or ’59 he married Miss Mary Earley, who with two sons, Will O. and Eugene C. Ware, and an adopted daughter, Carrie, survive.

Mr. Ware was an energetic man, fond of good horses and was for many years the only veterinarian in this city.  He knew how to judge grain as well as horses and for a number of years was a grain buyer for Roberts & Oborn’s mills.  While he was a blunt, outspoken man he had a big heart and no man in Waupaca was any more willing to render help to a person in distress or trouble than DeWitt Ware.  He was a kind husband and father and a good neighbor.

The funeral was held Sunday afternoon, Rev. L.D. Hopkins officiating, there being a large concourse of friends and neighbors present.  He leaves besides the family above mentioned, to mourn, an aged mother and two brothers, J.M. and Duane Ware.  His disease was a stricture of the esophagus or canal that conducts the food to the stomach.  The disease would not yield to treatment and resulted in a gradual breaking down of his system.
