Wedman John01

Waupaca Post

September 26, 1907

John Fredrick Wedman was born in Niedorf, province of Pozen, Germany, June 21, 1831.

He was one of a family of seven children, four sons and three daughters.

Accompanied by his sister, Louise, he came to America in April in 1857, and was on Long Island for about a year.  January 26, 1862, he was married to Miss Rhoda Havey, in Elba, Dodge Co., Wis., and in March of the same year they moved to the homestead in the town of Waupaca, Waupaca Co., Wis., where he passed away Sept. 16, 1907, after an illness of more than a year’s duration.

His sister, who came with him to this country, having died in 1861, he is survived by his wife and four children; Harriet, the wife of Pliny Green, of Stanley, Wis., Alice, Albert and Alfred, who live at home with their mother.

Mr. Wedman was a quiet, pleasant, industrious man, liked and respected by all.

His life was representative of those, who, undisturbed by the rush and turmoil of political strife, and passing ambitions, pursue the even tenor of their way, in honest toil and worthy endeavor to maintain the homes which are the safe-guards of the nation.

He was one of the early settlers, and few remain to relate their early hardships on the “Indian land”; but of his many friends who mourn his passing, those who are now at the noontide of life will especially lovingly remember him when they recall their childhood hours.

Services were held at the home Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 18, 1907, Rev. Neff, of Weyauwega, officiating, and interment was in the Baldwin’s Mills cemetery.
