MRS. RISPA WELLS

Mrs. Rispa Wells died at the hospital at the Wisconsin Veterans’ Home on July 27, after an afflicting illness of more than two years.

Rispa Ballard, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lyman Ballard, was born April 1, 1853, and came from New York State to Wisconsin at the tender age of four years.  Her twin brother, Royal, died at Casselton, N. Dakota, two years ago.  In 1873 she was united in marriage to Wallace Wells and to this union three sons were born, Miles of Waupaca, and Ray who lives at Kempster, survive.  Claude and the husband have passed to the Great Beyond.  Besides her two sons she has one brother living, Ralph Ballard, at Farwell, Minn., seven grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews who are left to mourn her departure.

In the winter of 1925 Mrs. Wells underwent an operation for cancer at the St. Agnes hospital at Fond du Lac, which relieved her for a time. She made her home, during the winter, with her niece, Mrs. Geo. L. Miller, at Fond du Lac, a daughter of Geo. S. Robertson. Later she became worse, but she bore it patiently with true Christian fortitude.  Her life was one that her many friends recall with full appreciation of her worth and helpfulness.

The funeral ws held at the Baptist church on Thursday afternoon. There was a large attendance.  Rev. Earl Gibson who was a dear friend of the family when they lived in Manawa officiated.  He spoke so highly of the deceased and gave such kind words of cheer and comfort to the mourners.  The body was laid to rest in Lakeside Cemetery, Wauapca, where her husband and son, Claude, are buried.
