ELEVEN HANS ANDERSONS
ON THE WAUPACA ROUTES
Strangers About Here Start Out to Find Their Friend, Hans Anderson
Mark
Richards of Appleton, state agent for the Buick Car Company, was in the city
Tuesday and while here told a good story on Will Gross’ traveling salesman for
the Kickbush wholesale grocery company at Wausau,
which occurred while Messrs. Geo. W. Davis and Will Gross were in Appleton
recently when they purchased Mr. Gross’ runabout Buick car. The story runs as follows: after these gentlemen purchased the car, Mr.
Richards said he would ride over as far as Waupaca with them on the way home. They started.
When nearing Waupaca about six miles out Mr. Gross remarked that he
would like to call upon some old farmer friends who live a few miles out of
Waupaca by the name of Hans Anderson.
Mr. Richards acting as chauffeur and being of an accommodating nature
replied that he would try to find them.
When about four miles east of Waupaca he stopped in front of a farm
house and called. Asked if they could
inform him where Hans Anderson lived.
They replied he lived south and west one mile. The automobile party thanked them for the
information and rode south and west and sure enough such was the man’s name but
he was not he party wanted. They were
directed still further on south and west but to another Hans Anderson but he
was not the party wanted. Thus they searched
and called making six calls upon six farmers all of the
same name, Hans Anderson. On the arrival
into the city of Waupaca they
called at the post office hoping to get track of the right party and were
informed that there were eleven Hans Andersons who received mail on the
R.F.D.’s out of Waupaca. Mr. Gross added
further in explanation that the one he knew and wanted to locate, his wife’s
given name was “Della”, and then he was informed by the Post Master that they
lived just outside the city limits a short distance. After their long and diligent search the
automobile party came to the conclusion that Waupaca county
was pretty well populated with Scandinavians from the numerous families of Hans
Anderson that lived within the county.
