HITS DOG, STONE, HOME, FURNITURE
George Cartwright, Waupaca dog catcher, hired since the county was quarantined for rabies, drew up in his car beside a police dog belonging to Carl Cohen, near the Grayco Oil station on Mill Street, drew a revolver from his holster, shot the dog through the shoulder.
The bullet, when it left the dog, hit a stone in the road, dug a furrow in the gravel highway, went through a window in the Ray Wakefield house, across the street, shattered the glass in a chiffonier, and landed on the floor of an adjoining room.
The dog, watchman in Carl Cohen’s egg warehouse, had been let out, as usual twice a day, when he would run down to the Waupaca River, swim for a few minutes and return. He did not show signs of rabies. Under the car of a veterinarian, he is recovering.
