Flanagan Baseball 01
Waupaca Record
August 6, 1908
Sheriff
Ed Flanagan was in Calumet Harbor
last week Wednesday as pitcher for the ball team of the Oshkosh Knights of
Columbus against the Fond du Lac
team. He may wear the uniform of the Oshkosh
league team next season if he does not sign with the Philadelphia American
league team. He had a provisional
contract with Philadelphia this
year but his duties as sheriff of the county prevented him from going.
Waupaca Post
August 6, 1908
Flanagan,
the Waupaca twirler, had the Stevens Pointers at his mercy in the game played
at the Grand View
Base Ball Park
on Sunday Aug. 2. He allowed but two
hits, and struck out twelve men. Carl Anderson, our catcher, played exceedingly
well throughout the game, hardly improvement could have been possible. He caught all but one man while trying to
steal bases. The one disinteresting
feature of the game, was the playing of Carl Cook on
first base, but he cannot be condemned simply on this one offense because he is
not used to playing this position.
Waupaca has a number of good games scheduled and if Waupaca continues to
play the same as Sunday last, they should have the entire support of the
citizens of Waupaca. We hope for the
time which we will be able to have many fines games here, but this cannot be
attained without support.
