Andrew M. Hansen Celebrates 67 Years Residence Here

August 4, 1870, a ten year old boy from Denmark came by ship to New York, and finally on the Northwestern railway to Oshkosh, then by steam boat to Gills and by stage to Waupaca.  In the autumn of 1871 he, with other Waupaca boys, road the engine on the old Central line to Harrington’s and helped the engineer to pump water from the creek to use in the engine because they had not struck water at the station here.

In 1884 that man, then 24, started in business on his own account in Waupaca and has continued in business the entire 53 years since that time. Mr. A.M. Hansen is the oldest businessman in Waupaca and hale and hearty. Is one of the most active men in the city.

Mr. Hansen celebrated the 67th anniversary of his arrival at Waupaca at his machinery shop in his usual business-like attitude yesterday.
