Gov. Thompson to Award Miss
Sophelia Kurkowski
Miss Sophelia Kurkokwski, Waupaca
high school American history teacher, will be cited for a special award to
Governor Vernon Thompson for her work with Junior Historians in the last 10
years.
The veteran teacher is one of 10
teacher-leaders being cited throughout the state in a State Award Day in
Madison, May 25, which will be the climax to regional conventions of the Junior
Historians.
As a guest of the state historical
society, Miss Kurkowski will be taken on a tour through their museum, following
which she will be a guest at a noon luncheon at the First University Methodist
church. In the afternoon she will receive
her award from the governor at the capitol.
Miss Kurkowski said that it was not
only a great personal honor, but also one for the high school and city. Through the past 10 years her American
history classes have written several books, presented three pageants, put up
signs denoting landmarks throughout the city plus many other contributions to
the community.
