Regent Duncan McGregor, one of the official visitors of the Normal school Wednesday and today, was a guest at the home of A.M. Nelson Wednesday night, thus giving both an opportunity to renew an acquaintance formed forty-five years ago, who Mr. McGregor was teaching the Waupaca High School and Mr. Nelson was one of his pupils.  As that time Mr. McGregor, Mr. Nelson and H.C. Mead, the banker who was murdered at Waupaca a number of years ago, boarded at the same place.

Fifty years ago Mr. McGregor came with his family, the late Malcolm McGregor, from Scotland, and a little later settled in the town of Lanark, this county.  Soon thereafter young McGregor made a trip down the Wisconsin and Mississippi rivers on a fleet of lumber.  A little later he taught district schools in Lanark and finally went up step by step until he was chosen president of the Platteville Normal, a position he held for many years.  For a long series of years he ranked among the foremost educators of the state.  A few years ago Mr. McGregor “struck it rich” in a zinc mine at Platteville and has become quite wealthy. – Stevens Point Journal.

The above parties were all formerly of this city.
