MR. AND MRS. E.C. MEAD VISIT OLD FRIENDS HERE

NOW RESIDE AT SPOKANE, WASH.

OLD THRESHERMAN ENJOYS TOURING SEVERAL STATES

Mr. and Mrs. E.C. Mead of Spokane, Washington, arrived in Waupaca Friday and are guest of the former’s mother, A. Mead and family, Berlin street, and other relatives in Waupaca and vicinity.

Mr. Mead will be remembered by scores of early residents as he threshed and hulled clover seed during a period of thirty years before he sold his fine farm in Lind, now owned and occupied by Charles Marchant and sisters.

Mr. Mead relates an incident that will identify him among Waupaca pioneers.  While hulling clover seed at the farm owned by Albert Koplein, east of the city, Charles Churchill was attending high school in this city.  He rode a pony but being crippled he required help to mount the pony.  Mr. Mead started “Charles” to school one morning.

Mr. Mead left Wisconsin in 1902 and visited Waupaca during the Homecoming in 1913.  This month he is driving his car and goes and comes as he pleases.  Wednesday Mr. and Mrs. Mead drove to New London, Shawano, Elderon and Antigo, visiting friends en route.

On their return they will visit their daughter (Glennie), Mrs. J.D. Spence, at Stanton, South Nebraska, and may drive to Los Angeles to visit (Gladys) Mrs. Thomas Rankin.  They will defer their visit at the home of (Belle) Mrs. J.D. Solberg at Miami until their next auto trip.

Mr. Mead expressed surprise at the splendid growth of trees to be observed in Waupaca and the surrounding community.  He also noted many building sites where buildings were destroyed by fire, some of which have not been replaced.

Mr. Mead is alert and is possessed of an excellent memory and is an intensely interesting conversationalist.
