WAUPACA’S POTATO MARKET LIVELY
Prices Paid Are Around the 60 cent Mark
Rain Is Badly Needed
Five Car Loads Shipped Daily.
The potato market in this city is very lively and the prices range about 60 cents as compared to 50 cents at this time last year. The quality of the stock is very good, much better than last season when almost the entire crop was damaged by blight.
The average yield is about 100 bushels to the acre and with the small increase in the acreage planted will bring the potato crop of Waupaca county to about 2,000,000 bushels. In some places in this section as high as 200 bushels to the acre are being dug while in others the yield is only 75 bushels to the acre.
The extreme drouth has not materially damaged the late crop as year although rain is needed badly.
The market in Chicago and St. Louis continues steady and on Monday morning 75 car loads and on Tuesday 65 car loads were received in Chicago.
Between 50 and 60 loads come into this city daily and about five car loads are shipped each day. The price paid by local buyers is higher than in the surrounding towns and much higher than was paid last year at this time.
