                        James Rasmussen

                        W.C. Baldwin

There were a few loads brought in last week, for which an average price of 40 cents per bushel was paid.  This week the price is from 35 to 50 cents.

The indications in this vicinity are for a large crop, unless there should be an early freeze-up, as there was last October.

POTATO MARKET OPENED THIS WEEK

Average of Twenty Loads Coming In Daily

Smaller Acreage This Year Than Last

The potato market opened in this city this week with an average of about twenty loads each day.  Yesterday thirty loads were marketed here and the prices range from forty-five to fifty cents.  This is a considerable advance over the opening prices of last year which were thirty to thirty-two cents.  The acreage in the county is smaller this year than last.  For the past two years in 1905, 16,130; 1906, 17,169; 1907, 15,279 which shows a decrease over last year of 1890 acres.

The companies as represented on the streets now are Mortenson & Nelson, H.P. Mortenson buyer.

            P.M. Olfson, Guy Anderson, buyer.

A.M. Penney Co., Theo. Anderson, and Talford Penney buyers.

            Peterson Bros., Otto Olson, buyer.

            Hans Ebbe, Hans Ebbe buyer.

Owing to the late season a fair estimate of the late crop can not yet be made.

THE POTATO TRADE

The opening of the season for potato buying commenced this week with several of the twelve dealer buying and prices ranging from 45 cents to 50 cents per bushel.  There has been an average of twenty to twenty five loads a day sold in this market.  It is however too early for digging late potatoes and no extra rush is expected before the middle or last of September.

The regular dealers and buyers as named below ought to make business lively enough to  move the tubers during the next eight or nine months.
