THE POTATO SITUATION

There is a peculiar situation existent in the local potato market.  Though the market in Chicago and other Southern Points is stationary, the price paid on the streets here advanced about five cents Tuesday and Wednesday, the average price being about fifty-three cents and up to as high as fifty-eight cents.  It was reported that Michigan at first estimated one-half crop but later reports make it ninety per cent, and better crops than ever.  Foreign shipments are coming in very heavy now which will have a tendency to keep the market at a normal price.  Many of the farmers are storing their crops for higher prices but as the foreign shipments are heavy it will have a great effect on the market.
