POTATOES HIGHER

The potato market, which was easy for two weeks, got firmer the first of this week, and the price raised from 40 cents to 43, 45, 48, and yesterday 50 cents for fine stock.  Receipts have been quite heavy at this station, many framers hauling directly from the fields instead of storing.  The yield is turning out better than was expected, thought by no means an average crop, and the quality has not been so good for many years.  The stock appears to be clean, firm, and solid, and of fair size.  While many fields are running out 150 bushels to the acre, probably 100 will be more nearly the average in this vicinity.

This morning there is slight reaction, 48 cents being paid.

The car situation in this city has been better the past week, though none are available today.

Digging is practically over in this vicinity.
