GRAND OPENING
The Fair has a Big Time Afternoon and Evening.
Pursuant to preparations heralded by page ads in the three local city papers, Mr. N. Cohen of the firm of Cohen Bro’s, Waupaca, Grand Rapids and Wausau, gave a grand opening and reception at the new Fair Store in the former Union Store on Monday night at which an immense throng attended both day and evening.
The windows and immense salesrooms were beautifully trimmed and decorated for the occasion and fully a hundred gentlemen and lady clerks dressed in their best, and decorated with red badges numbered consecutively most gracefully waited upon all comers.
In the afternoon there was a large throng, with many from the country towns and villages, present.
Allens Orchestra played from two to four, and during the time Willys Holmes and a large number of assistants served ice cream, cakes, etc., and in the evening lemon sherbet.
The Orchestra also played from seven until nine in the evening. Lady clerks distributed souvenirs, both afternoon and evening and they were kept busy. The crowds came in swarms; it being estimated that 2000 people were present. There were no goods sold in the evening; Mr. and Mrs. Cohen and the force doing their best to entertain the vast crowd with good cheer. It went beyond all expectations and it was regretted that the supply of ice cream gave out before all were served. It was a good natured throng and all were pleased to inspect the many improvements inaugurated in all departments of The New Fair.
This article would not be complete without a special mention of the decorative "grand opening" sign in the front window. It was designed and made by Mr. Romanoff who is a window trimmer and decorative artist at The Fair.
