WAUPACA BREWERY
Early Industries – (?Waupaca
Souvenir Post - or - Railroads of Waupaca?)
Leonard
Arnold, born in Bavaria, started a brewery in about 1858 that he operated until
his death in 1888. The brewery was on
the banks of the Waupaca River, where Elm Street now intersects with Hwy
49. The wooden structure was 102 feet
long and 20 feet wide, with living quarters in one end. There was a full basement under the building
and an ice house. Mr. Arnold’s son
operated the brewery after his father’s death, becoming a distributor for
Schlitz Beer (1870s – 1880s?)
