THE REPUBLICAN September 27, 1889 O. M. Buck has finished his stone work contract on the Odd Fellows’
building and Wm. Sustins has commenced the brick work. There is some work by Dec. 1 THE REPUBLICAN September 27, 1889 A.
V. Balch and Street Commissioner Johnson made a survey Tuesday, to see if the
bay window, mentioned last week, projected into the street. It was discovered on survey, that the whole
block was built into Fulton Street, from twelve to fourteen inches. Therefore the street commissioner, as the
ordinance provides, removed the projection of the bay window, on Wednesday
morning. While
the REPUBLICAN, in common with the board and perhaps hundreds of others,
believe that that particular bay window constructed by the Post Company, would
be of no harm in the slight projection over the street, but the custom once
established of violating the ordinance, might lead to other extensions over the
streets, which would sooner or later beget a good deal more trouble than the
removal of this one. All this trouble
of removal might have been avoided, had the objections of the mayor and the
orders of the street commissioner been heeded. |
