THE WAUPACA REPUBLICAN December 27, 1895 A New Marl Bed. A few weeks ago Geo. Lombard
discovered a marl bed, and when it became known it was stated that it was in
town 25, range 11. This was a
mistake. The beds are located on
section 8, town 22, range twelve, and are only two and one half miles from the
depot in this city. The land on which
the marl was found now belongs to Geo. Lombard, A. W. Arnold and Geo.
Hanson. The marl covers between thirty
and forty acres of land and averages from ten to twenty feet in depth over the
entire tract. There is about one to one
and one-half feet of soil on the top that has to be removed to get at the
marl. It is said to be the finest kind
of shell marl, and stands the acid test well.
A sample of the marl has been sent to the state university for
analysis. The owners are very jubilant
over the fine quality of the marl. – Record. The extensive marl beds found in
this county will add additional luster to our resources. The last find is not far from the railroad
survey running by the granite quarry to connect with the G. B. W. & St. P.
Ry., which will make it more valuable, on account of the ease of transportation
via the different lines of railway right form the beds. It will be in order now to hustle along the
new north and south railway line through the county to make the granite and
marl resources profitable for business. |
