Crusher Crushing.

On Wednesday the famous stone crusher was placed in position at the planning mill of A. G. Nelson & Co., belt put on and set to work.  While it done enough to convince the spectators that it was a “crusher”, it was not fully adjusted to stand crowding, but yesterday morning the belt was tightened and the machine got down to business in earnest.  Ald. Benlick says a big load of material was crushed in nineteen minutes.  Eugene Ware commenced to haul the broken stone onto the street, commencing near Baldwin & Bailey’s mill.  It is the intention of the city fathers to cover the street with a coating four inches thick at the sides and six inches at the center, and give Main Street all they can afford to, perfect as far as they go and complete the covering of the street next spring.  Those who are acquainted with macadam work are satisfied Waupaca will have lasting streets when covered with crushing stone.  The estimated cost of macadamizing Main street has been figured at $6 per rod, running measure, which is much cheaper than clay and gravel if the “lasting qualities” are taken into consideration.
