THE WAUPACA REPUBLICAN February 16, 1903 Waupaca Advancement Association The above is the name adopted by our businessmen who met at the office of Chas. Churchill in the rear of the Waupaca County National Bank last Friday evening. Nearly every businessman in town was present and all seem bent on standing together to get a north and south railroad and more industries to help our thriving ad “suffering” metropolis, believing it is a life or death question that confronts us. H. G Salter called the meeting to order. Geo. W. Ghoca was elected chairman and on motion appointed a committee of five consisting of E. E. Browne, H. G. Slater, Chas. Churchill, H. M. Lea and Dr. L. H. Pelton to nominate or propose names for officers of the association, draft a constitution and by-laws, and fix plans for a permanent organization The committee retired about fifteen minutes and returned. Mr. Browne read the names proposed for officers, and they were unanimously elected as follows: President – Geo. W. Ghoca. Vice-President – John Gordon. Secretary – G. H. Slater. Treasurer – M. F. Skinner. The committee asked for further time to prepare plans, and an adjournment was taken until Friday evening, Feb. 20, when the full machinery will be set in motion to make what Waupaca needs, a live organization. Another railroad and more industries or visa versa it matters not which, is what we want and must have. |
