THE REPUBLICAN

August 24, 1883

The new improvements that Winfield Scott is making to the building occupied by the hardware firm of H. W. Williams & Co., will make a building just adapted to the business and suited to the good taste and judgment of Mr. Williams the head man of the house. The building will be 108 feet deep including a room 20 x 30 for the tin shop in the rear.  There will be a second floor over the store with a large storeroom for wood for work, carriages, wagons, also rakes, cradles, cultivators, refrigerators, and other classes of goods, while a basement room 20 x 40 with a good hardwood floor and well lighted, will be used for storing stoves and heavy hardware.  A Mitchell patent safety elevator will be put in to convey their stock up or down, just as they like.  Mr. Williams will also have his office in the rear of the store on the south side which will be fitted up in style, with a railing and every convenience including a large window to let in plenty of light, so business can be transacted a little easier, and with more pleasure than formerly.  These improvements are something that Messrs. H. W. Williams & Co., have long desired, and their rapidly increasing business has at last demanded them.
