in 1865 and has since been conducted with great success. The premises first occupied was a small
wooden building that stood on the site of the present spacious brick block,
which contains a large area of floor space all of which is essentially
necessary for the adequate display of the immense stock which is the largest
carried by any one merchant in Waupaca.
This house is run entirely under the management of H.M. Lea who has been
connected with its affairs for twenty-one years taking exclusive charge seven
years ago. He is a shrewd businessman
and by his courteous ways and square dealings has made numerous friends and
successfully carried on the business started by his father. He possesses every possible faculty for
satisfactorily dealing with the largest jobbing houses and manufacturers and is
continually on the lookout for anything that will serve the interests of his
patrons. This firm carries a full and
complete line of dry goods, clothing, boots and shoes, and groceries and is
noted for its splendid array and lowness of prices. The clothing department is located on the second floor and
embraces a line of goods from the finest to the cheapest grades that cannot
fail to please. Mr. Lea during his long
and active career has won a measure of popularity, confidence and respect in
Waupaca, second to no other member of her commercial circles. He is highly esteemed by the community for
his sound business principles and integrity and is one of the most successful
merchants in the city. Buying goods in
large quantities enables the proprietor to do so at reduced prices the benefit
of which is given to the customers. |
