King Flag Pole01
WAUPACA REPUBLICAN
August 25, 1899
When the workmen attempted to raise the new iron flag pole at the Veterans’ Home last Saturday afternoon, the pole broke when about ten feet from the ground, and when it struck the ground it broke in several pieces. Fortunately no one was injured. It was lucky that it was not erected, for a strong wind would probably have toppled it over, and the chances are that it would have killed some in so doing. The Home will probably order a new one, stronger than this one. – Post.
