THE REPUBLICAN September 1, 1905 A MAGNIFICENT PURCHASE. Samuel Lawrence of Galesburg, Ill., sold to Camp Cleghorn Association the thirty acres which was an amount of land left of the Dake estate lying along the west shore of Marl or Dake Lake and adjoins Camp Cleghorn Assembly grounds on the East. The price was somewhere in the neighborhood of $1,200 but as a fine piece of property along with the Assembly grounds it is worth twice that sum now for beautifying Camp Cleghorn Park. It is the intention of the Assembly Association to improve the property, and in our minds eye we can picture beautiful cottages fronting on Dake Lake and the bay of Columbian Lake. Launches and gondolas are flitting to and fro from the Chain o’ Lakes via the lagoon or channel which has been dredged to connect the Chain with Dake and Miner Lakes. The distance between Dake and Columbian Lakes is less than forty rods and when ready for dredging hundreds of people would be glad to lend a hand or team to work a day or a week on the Panama. Those who are permitted to see Camp Cleghorn less than a decade from now will be surprised at the Improvements inaugurated and carried forward to completion. |
