THE REPUBLICAN

August 25, 1892

The Chain o’ Lakes seem never so pretty and attractive as now.  On Monday afternoon the writer, and a party of friends, through the courtesy of Capt. Foster and “Chief Stoker” W. B. Baker, of the steamer Sunrise, took a most delightful trip around the lakes.  No more pleasant excursion could have been planned.  The little steamer ran as smoothly as a boat ever did, and there was nothing to mar the restful quiet of the day.  The various camping places around the lakes have been much improved this year, and nearly every cottage has had occupants all summer long.  A gentleman from Chicago was overheard to remark the other day, “These lakes, when their beauty is made known to the world, will do more for Waupaca than her potatoes or granite quarry.”
