THE WAUPACA POST September 29, 1887 “THE WAUPACA” The First Cottage at the Veterans’ Home. In answer to a call published in last week’s POST the parlor of the Business Men’s Rooms was well filled by the ladies of Waupaca on Tuesday afternoon, September 27. The object of the meeting was to consult as to the practicability of building a cottage for the use of the inmates of the Veterans’ Home. To many it may seem very fitting for women to take the initiatory step in this work, for the Home is the first which makes provision for wife or widow of he dependent soldier. To
preserve the home life cottages are a necessity, and the management recognizing
this fact, are making efforts to have them built as rapidly as possible. G.A.R. Posts all through the state are all
trying to raise sufficient money to build one, as their contribution to the aid
of their needy comrades. The soldiers
of Waupaca would be glad to see their own little city erect the first one and
to this end the meeting was called. A full attendance and an unanimous vote in
favor of the work, shows the willingness of Waupaca ladies to come to the
rescue when they are needed. No soldier
knows just what his future may be, hence no one knows but his own wife or widow
may some day need the protection of this Home, and few are the families in
Waupaca in which there is no soldiers.
They let a hearty response greet the ladies from everybody. The “long pull” and the “strong pull” are
not needed, but the “pull together” will make it so easy you will not know you
have rendered any assistance. LOOK OUT FOR TICKETS!! - COMMITTEE |
