WAUPACA POST March 15, 1906 SHOULD STOP FUTURE RUMORS E.Q. Nye Discusses Finding in Waupaca Home Case. [Milwaukee Sentinel.] “The complete exoneration of the officials of the Waupaca Veterans’ Home should forever end such unfair and unjust accusations,” said E.Q. Nye, chairman of the board of visitors of the Home, yesterday. “All these reports were started from the outside of the home, principally by one or two who had been dishonorably discharged for infraction of the rules. We have done all we could to court this inquiry because we had nothing to conceal. I have visited the Home regularly several times a year for the last three years, always going unannounced, so that I could see how the institution was conducted under ordinary conditions. I have always found the board excellent and the institution comfortable and scrupulously clean. The discipline is as mild as it could be. I have talked with many members, not as thought they were state charges, but as old comrades, and have never received one well founded word of complaint. “These reports are an injustice to the Grand Army, for the Home is under the supervision of our order. We have a personal consideration and sympathy for those old comrades there, for soon any of us may be there, and to think that we would permit such injustice does our order a grave wrong.” |
