Hall Diamond Trophy01

WAUPACA REPUBLICAN

January 20, 1893

The Waupaca curlers are having a splendid time at the St. Paul bonspiel, and it looks as though the Waupaca “laddies” would bring back a trophy.  There is one thing sure they have held their own against some of the crack curlers in the country.  The first game for the Hall diamond trophy, resulted in S.S. Chandler Waupaca, skip, beating the famous George Wood, Chicago, skip, 21 to 14.

For the John Johnson trophy Chandler beat McCuteheon St. Paul 19 to 16.  Knudsen was only one behind the famous Hill of Chicago and Williams only one behind the crack Wells, skip of Portage.  In the St. Paul silver tankard contest Williams beat Harvey of St. Paul 16 to 17.  The Chicago Herald says the famous Manitoba’s were knocked out badly owing to the magnificent work of Chicago and the superior skill of the Waupaca curlers.  Waupaca is getting lots of advertising owing to the great contest of the International Northwestern Curling Association at St. Paul. The devotees of the Scotch game will not return before Saturday night.
