WAUPACA CURLERS AT ST. PAUL

The Waupaca curlers came home Saturday last, after a splendid time at St. Paul, though they didn’t bring home any trophies or medals, they have the satisfaction of knowing they held their opponents down closely, there being but little difference in scores.  The “Kid” rink, J.P. Knudson, skip, was beaten four out of five games, but its total count was but three less than its opponent.  Three of the games were tie games requiring an extra head to be played to decide them. The “Knight Errants” H.W. Williams, skip, also lost four out of five their total being 16 less than their opponents.  The best game they played was with J.H. Wells, of Portage, which they lost by a score of 10 to 11. The “Presidents” rink, S.S. Chandler Jr., did the best of all.  They were beaten both games on Tuesday, but won two on Wednesday, won one on Thursday, and one on Friday, losing two Friday evening, more through being tired out, than from poor playing, having been forced to play four games on that day.  Friday morning two picked rinks, skipped by Jeff Woodnorth and Frank Whipple played the strongest Minneapolis rinks for the Merriam Medal.  The Whipple rink won by one point, and the Woodnorth rink lost by the same margin, leaving the combined score a tie.  The home curlers gave up the game as they didn’t wish to stay over and play for it.

All in all the boys had a splendid time, and made the best showing that Waupaca curlers have for several years.  They were treated royally, and are ready to go again.
