Rev. Burleson Resigns
Rev. Hugh L. Burleson, who has been rector of St. Mark’s Episcopal church for the past four years, tendered his resignation to the vestry last week Thursday, and on Tuesday evening, after due deliberation and an extended conference with Mr. Burleson, the resignation was accepted, though with deep regret.
Mr. Burleson has made many friends here in the four years he has been pastor of St. Mark’s church, who will be sorry to have him leave. The church has been placed on a substantial basis, a rectory built, repairs and an addition have been made to the church building, and the society materially increased in numbers, and all mainly through is energetic work. The mission at Amherst has also been established and kept up. It is a record of which he may well feel proud, this having been his first charge.
On Wednesday he accepted a call to be the assistant pastor of St. Luke’s church, Rochester, N.Y., and expects to leave for his new field about June 1. Until that time, services will be held as usual, though the resignation takes effect April 30.
Rev. and Mrs. Burleson will carry with them the best wishes and heartiest good will of all who know them, mingled with regret at their departure.
It is not yet known who will be his successor in the charge.
