Suspended From the Ministry.

At a called meeting of the United Presbyterian Presbytery of Wisconsin, held at Vernon, December 27, 1881, John M McArthur was suspended from the exercise of the Gospel Ministry on account of drunkenness and other sins.  It is due to the community that the facts be known here where he has scandalized, by his unchristian-like conduct, the church to which he preached, and religion generally.  Many may attach blame to the congregation for keeping Mr. McArthur so long after the facts were known, but it should be remembered that most of the members reside outside of the city, and that these wrongs were carefully covered up.  The informed the Superintendent of Mission as soon as the truth was unfolded, therefore no odium should rest upon them in this matte.  Let every lover of religion and good moral take these brethren by the hand and give them a word of cheer in this, the time of trouble and disgrace brought on by another.
