THE WAUPACA REPUBLICAN June 11, 1908 TWO PROSPEROUS SOCIETIES (Holy Ghost Church under
separate file than Our Savior’s Scandinavian Ev. Lutheran Church) On the occasion of the joint convention of the Danish societies in this city this week and next, we publish some facts regarding the organization and growth of the two local churches. Our Savior’s Scandinavian Ev. Luth. Church of Waupaca was organized Jan. 11, 1879 by the following well known residents of the city and locality: Jacob Nelsen, Christian Johnsen, Knud W. Jensen, C. A. Olsen, Boe Peterson, Jens Hansen, Peder Larsen, and Gabriel Gabrielsen. For the first few years the society owned and used a small schoolhouse in the third ward, situated a little south of the depot; same is now a part of Mr. Simon Larsen’s residence and was on the same lot. They later bought a property on Badger and Division streets and have made extensive improvements. Their church property and parsonage are now worth at least $10,000 and no debt. The congregation was for the first couple of years served by Rev. Dahl from Green Bay and Rev. Wahl from Winchester, the first resident minister being Rev. O. Amundsen and after him came Rev. P. J. Ostergaard, N. S. Nielsen and L. Johnsen in the order given. The present minister is Rev. M. N. Andreasen. The present board of trustees is composed of 7 members, N. P. Petersen, H. S. Mortensen, S. J. Danielsen, Ing. Ovrom, H. S. Mortensen, Carl Jensen, and Gust Louis of which N. P. Petersen is president, H. S. Mortensen vice president, S. J. Danielsen treasurer and Ing. Ovrom secretary. The Ladies Aid Society consist of 51 members with Mrs. M. N. Andreasen as president, Mrs. John Ekstrom as Sec. and Mrs. Gust Louis as treasurer. The Young People’s Society has 40 members with Miss Anna Yorkson as president, Miss Sarah Ruder as Sec. and Mr. Henry Louis as Treasurer. This is an enrollment in the Sunday School of 90 pupils, with Rev. M. N. Andreasen as Superintendent and Ing. Ovrom as Sec., and will have a summer school for two months with Miss Tea Jensen as teacher. The
choir consists of 10 members with Miss Edith Hansen as organist and Ing. Ovrom
as leader.
