THE REPUBLICAN May 26, 1899 Supt. Hansen has had the trenches dug out on the east and south sides of the court yard for the purpose of lowering the water mains along those streets about a foot deeper. There is so much travel there and the snow being off the frost has done more damage there than elsewhere. Other breaks are being closed up as fast as possible. Next week will probably see the mains all right again. Extra precautions will be taken in the way of keeping up a water circulation at all dead ends and precarious places next winter, during the long, deep freezing spells. The past winter’s work of the frost was an expensive object lesson but it will put waterworks committees and superintendents on their guard in the future. |
