WAUPACA
REPUBLICAN January
15, 1897 Curling
Notes The first game in the second series
for the Officer’s cup was played on Friday last, between Stout’s and
Woodnorth’s rinks. It was one of the best games played here this season, there
being fewer stones lost, and more perfect playing done. On the eleventh end, the score was 7 to 6 in
Woodnorth’s favor, but in the twelfth end, Stout made a running shot which left
him three counts, thereby winning the game by the score of 9 to 7. The ice has been in almost constant
use this week, the curlers getting in all the practice they can before going to
the bonspiel at Portage. The Stout and Williams rinks played
their game in the first series for the Officer’s Cup, Monday evening, Williams
being victorious by a score of 13 to 6. The Woodnorth and Sturtevant rinks
played their second series game Monday afternoon, the latter rink winning by a
score of 15 to 14. The Stout and Sturtevant rinks
played their second series cup game Tuesday evening, the latter rink being
victorious by a score of 15 to 9. The present indications are that
there will be at least four and possibly five go to Portage next Monday to
attend the bonspiel. - Waupaca Post. |
