THE
REPUBLICAN January
15, 1897 THE
CURLERS. Four
Waupaca Rinks Go to Portage to
Take Part in the Northwestern Bonspiel. The bonspiel of the Northwestern
Curling Association is in full blast at Portage this week. The weather had been
soft and made the curlers feel blue enough last week. In fact the prospect up to Sunday morning was favorable for
postponing the event indefinitely, but the weather forecasters came to the
rescue by sending in a cold wave which came on time from Manitoba, Sunday night
and Monday morning. About the same time
H.W. Williams received a dispatch that the games would commence Tuesday
afternoon. Four rinks left Tuesday
morning via the Stevens Point and Portage division of the Central as follows: WILLIAMS’
RINK George Dirimple Mett Scott J.H.
McCullough H.W.
