Curling Match This week the curlers of the
Northwest are having a grand bonspiel at Portage. The match for the Morgan Medal took place Wednesday. The side winning the prize three times is entitled
to bear the medal permanently. It has
been won twice by Chicago and Milwaukee and once by Columbia county. Should it be won by the former side it will
terminate the match. Should it be won
by Columbia county and her allies, the final game will be played next year. H.W. Williams, E. Coolidge, Frank
Whipple and Asa Holly went down from the Waupaca curling club of the Match for
the Morgan medal Wednesday. The Pioneer
Press says: The great curling bonspiel
for the Morgan medal took place on the Silver Lake curling rink today and
proved to be a close and spirited contest, resulting in a victory for Columbia
county and her Northwestern allies by a score of 227 against 200 for Chicago
and Milwaukee, H.P. Jamieson’s rink of Poynette taking the honors, having
scored the largest majority over its opponents. The drawing for ice and contestants took place at 11 a.m., and
matched as follows, the score made by each rink also being given. Columbia County, etc. 15 Chicago and Milwaukee Robertson, Arlington 15 Adams, Milwaukee 16 Lormer, St. Paul 8 Hill, Chicago 25 Bushnell, Wyocenal 16 McWhirter, Chicago 21 Jager, Portage 24 Johnston, Milwaukee 12 Wells, Portage 27 Middlemass, Milwaukee 13 Jamison, Poynette 27 Dingwall, Milwaukee 7 M’Canochie, C’mbr’a 21 West, Milwaukee 15 Freeland, Poynette 14 Currie, Milwaukee 16 Hastle, Dekoria 13 Bryden, Milwaukee 33 Williams, Waupaca 16 Wood, Chicago 12 McCulloch, St. Paul 21 Ruffer, Chicago 16 James, Portage 25 Nelson, Chicago 14 Total 227 Total 200 Majority, 27. The Minneapolis and Lodi rinks and
one from Lincoln Park of Chicago were the only absentees. Arrangements for tomorrow’s games are being
made at headquarters tonight. The visiting
curlers were banqueted by the Columbia county curlers at the armory Wednesday
evening. |
