REPUBLICAN February 15, 1894 CURLERS AT PORAGE
The following curlers left on Monday morning for Portage, to take part in the approaching games to be played there: A.W. Hollenbeck, M.B. Scott, J.H. McCullough, H.W. Williams, skip; E.B. Knapp, Ernest Smith, J.L. Sturtevant, J.F. Knudsen, skip. PORTAGE, February 13, 1894. – The bonspiel opened Tuesday morning, with games between Knudson, of Waupaca, against Miller, of Cambria; Williams, of Waupaca, against Porter, of Portage; and Seville, of Lodi, against Houston, of Cambria. The weather was perfect and the ice in the rink very keen. Knudsen and Williams both had walkaways, the result being: Williams, 22; Porter, 6 Knudsen, 20; Miller, 13 The Seville-Houston game was very close, the latter winning on the last head by a score of 16 to 15. Outside ice is being made this afternoon, and several games will be played tonight. The Portage curlers are doing all in their power to entertain their visitors. There are thrity-four rinks entered in the bonspiel, and the prizes are as follows: 1 – Four pairs Curling stones 2 – Four fishing rods 3 – Four caps Consolation – Four sweaters Point – Silver cup. |
