REPUBLICAN March
1, 1895 The
Pfister Trophy The famous trophy won by the
Chandler rink of the Waupaca Curling Club at the recent N.W. bonspiel at
Milwaukee, has arrived and is displayed along wit the silver flasks and gold
medals won by this rink, in the window at H.M. Lea’s store. It is a beauty. To appreciate it, go and see it.
We give a brief description of it. The base and curling stone is turned
out of a solid block of ebony, the part representing the stone being covered
with pure filigree silver chased, the name “Pfister” engraved on one side: the other side contains six tablets to be
filled with names of the rinks winning it each year. The first space is filled as follows: 1895 Won by the
Waupaca Curling Club. H.M.
Lea A.W.
Hollenbeck A.M.
Chandler S.S.
Chandler Jr., Skip. The base is surrounded by one dozen
solid silver brooms and on one side is a silver tablet containing the
presentation of the trophy and the rules governing the same. WAUPACA
POST February
28, 1895 THE
TROPHY HERE. The long looked for Pfister Trophy which was won by the S.S. Chandler rink of curlers at the Milwaukee Bonspiel last month, arrived by express this morning, and is on exhibition in H.M. Lea’s store window. Accompanying it are the individual medals, the special prizes won by the Chandler rink, and the scarf pins won by the Williams rink, at the same place. The Pfister trophy is a ebony curling stone nearly covered with solid silver filigree work, resting on an ebony base, to which are attached numerous silver brooms. The trophy is appropriately engraved and the names of the members of the winning rink, Messrs. H.M. Lea, A.W. Hollenbeck, A.M. Chandler, and S.S. Chandler Jr., skip, are also engraved on it. The trophy was donated by Chas. Pfister of Milwaukee and is valued at $500. It will be on exhibition at Mr. Lea’s for a few days and then be placed in a vault for safe keeping until next year, when it will be played for at the bonspiel at Duluth. WAUPACA
