3, 1895 THE
CURLERS Members of the Waupaca Curling club have been thoroughly enjoying the cold weather since it came, putting in several hours day and night in their new rink on Curler’s Island. The advent of the great Milwaukee bonspiel, which commences Jan. 14, has made the curlers feel like getting in all the practice possible before that time. The outlook at present is that four rinks will go to Milwaukee, being made up as follows: Theo.
Cook, lead; M.B. Scott, second; J.H. McCullough, third; H.W. Williams, skip. H.M.
Lea, lead; A.W. Hollenbeck, second; A.M. Chandler, third; S.S. Chandler Jr.,
skip. Frank
Whipple, lead and skip; C.R. Hoffmann, second; Frank Stout, third; Jeff
Woodnorth, fourth. E.B.
Knapp, lead; E.W. Smith, second; J.L. Sturtevant, third, J.F. Knudsen, skip. The
various rinks are known by the name of their skips. The practice games, where there have been regular rinks at play,
resulted as follows: Saturday
- Williams 10, Whipple 17. Monday
- Whipple 5, Williams 15. Evening
- Whipple 9, Williams 17. Tuesday
Morning - Williams 5, Chandler 20 Afternoon
- Whipple 4, Knudsen 24 Evening
- Knudsen 7, Chandler 16 The
games have been very exciting and there have been many interested
spectators. The game is a royal one and
visitors are always welcome. It is
expected that a local bonspiel will be held after the big Milwaukee affair. |
