THE CURLERS

Members of the Waupaca Curling club have been thoroughly enjoying the cold weather since it came, putting in several hours day and night in their new rink on Curler’s Island.  The advent of the great Milwaukee bonspiel, which commences Jan. 14, has made the curlers feel like getting in all the practice possible before that time.  The outlook at present is that four rinks will go to Milwaukee, being made up as follows:

Theo. Cook, lead; M.B. Scott, second; J.H. McCullough, third; H.W. Williams, skip.

H.M. Lea, lead; A.W. Hollenbeck, second; A.M. Chandler, third; S.S. Chandler Jr., skip.

Frank Whipple, lead and skip; C.R. Hoffmann, second; Frank Stout, third; Jeff Woodnorth, fourth.

E.B. Knapp, lead; E.W. Smith, second; J.L. Sturtevant, third, J.F. Knudsen, skip.

The various rinks are known by the name of their skips.  The practice games, where there have been regular rinks at play, resulted as follows:

            Saturday - Williams 10, Whipple 17.

            Monday - Whipple 5, Williams 15.

                        Evening - Whipple 9, Williams 17.

            Tuesday Morning - Williams 5, Chandler 20

                        Afternoon - Whipple 4, Knudsen 24

                        Evening - Knudsen 7, Chandler 16

The games have been very exciting and there have been many interested spectators.  The game is a royal one and visitors are always welcome.  It is expected that a local bonspiel will be held after the big Milwaukee affair.
