WAUPACA REPUBLICAN January 22, 1897 THE CURLERS No Big Trophies – Good Records, and Some Prizes The rinks of the Waupaca curling club which attended the bonspiel at Portage City, came home gradually from Saturday to Tuesday, Williams “dying game” in several important events. The Waupaca curlers made some fine records capturing several prizes and four gold medals. Williams got second in the St. Paul Jobbers event, four gold medals, and Sturtevant fourth in the Portage event, four elegant sweaters. Williams’ rink won 13 games and lost 4; Sturtevants’s rink won 8 games and lost 4; Stout’s rink won 4 and lost 5. The curlers speak in the highest terms of the treatment received by their Portage brethren. The following captured first in the principle events: Portage Event – J.H. Wells of Portage Pfister – J.
